The Challenge:
Patheon, a leader in contract pharmaceutical manufacturing, wanted to decommission one plant, and transfer all production to an existing plant with ongoing operations. Moving large-scale production equipment, and laboratory activity while maintaining GMP manufacturing operations required great care in scheduling and detailing work packages.
Achieving a Successful Outcome:
The 18,000 sf expansion was completed on an accelerated project schedule of only 13 months, in order to accommodate new and transferred business and to prevent any downtime in production while the existing facility was still in operation.
- Minimized new utility requirements by maximizing existing utility system.
- Relocated existing packaging and manufacturing equipment.
- Used more economical exterior and interior finishes.
- Maximized use of all existing building space for new mechanical and electrical service rooms.
- Built on a previous renovation program, completed at the same plant under Novartis.
Achieving alignment with the project cost, schedule and scope resulted in NXL significantly enhancing the value of the facility, by completing the major expansion while ensuring that the existing plant remained in operation and achieving validation on a tight schedule.
